Windows 11 Install Notes
Windows 11 adds several security features that can block or interfere with Wave Executor installation. This guide covers what to check before you install, and what to expect after.
Windows 11 Versions Supported
Wave Executor supports Windows 11 versions 22H2 (build 22621), 23H2 (build 22631), 24H2 (build 26100), and 25H2 (build 26200) on x64. All are 64-bit only. If you are on an older Insider build or a preview branch, compatibility is not guaranteed.
To check your version: press Win + R, type winver, press Enter. The dialog shows your version and build number.
Before You Install
1. Check Smart App Control
Windows 11 includes Smart App Control, which blocks unsigned executables. If it is set to "On", Wave Executor may not launch even after installation.
- Open Windows Security
- Go to App & browser control
- Click Smart App Control settings
- If the status is "On", that is likely the cause
Turning Smart App Control off is a system-wide decision. We do not recommend disabling OS security features unless you understand the trade-off. If Smart App Control has never been turned on for your device, it stays off and does not affect you.
2. Check Core Isolation / Memory Integrity
Core Isolation uses virtualization to isolate critical OS processes. When Memory Integrity is enabled, it blocks the memory access pattern Wave Executor uses for injection.
- Open Windows Security
- Go to Device Security
- Click Core Isolation Details
- Check the status of Memory Integrity
If Memory Integrity is on, Wave will fail to attach. You would need to disable it for Wave to work. Again, this is a trade-off decision.
3. Check Controlled Folder Access
Controlled Folder Access blocks unauthorized apps from writing to protected folders. If Wave's install location is inside a protected folder, installation or configuration writing may fail.
- Open Windows Security
- Go to Virus & threat protection
- Scroll to Ransomware protection
- Click Manage ransomware protection
- Check if Controlled Folder Access is on
If it is on, add the Wave Executor installation folder to the allowed apps list.
Installation Steps
The install process is the same as on Windows 10:
- Download the installer from the download page
- Verify the SHA-256 hash — see verification guide
- Right-click the .exe and select Run as administrator
- If SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway
- Choose install location (default
C:\Program Files\Wave Executor\) - Finish the wizard
- Launch Wave Executor from the Start menu
Known Issues on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2
Recent Windows 11 updates tightened kernel access and process memory protection. If Wave fails to attach after a Windows update, the cause is often one of the following:
- Memory Integrity was silently re-enabled by an update
- Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) was turned on as part of a security baseline
- A new Defender definition started flagging Wave
- Windows introduced a new memory protection rule that older Wave versions did not account for
In most cases, a new Wave release restores compatibility. Check the changelog for the latest compatibility notes.
Uninstalling on Windows 11
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps → Installed apps
- Search for Wave Executor
- Click the three-dot menu next to it and select Uninstall
- Follow the uninstaller prompts
Leftover files may remain in your user profile scripts folder. Those can be deleted manually.
